Alumni event centers on food, fun and games
by Adam Grybowski
Homecoming is back.
On Oct. 28, alumni are invited to Rider University to participate in fun and games and enjoy food, drink and entertainment at their alma mater. It’s the first time Rider will host Homecoming since 2004.
“We've brought Homecoming back to campus to offer a day when students and alumni, faculty and staff can engage as one community to enjoy the moment, and look toward the future together,” says Lynn Schindel, associate director of alumni relations. “The whole day is designed to weave our alumni into the fabric of Rider's living, learning community.”
As in years past, Homecoming is centered on food, fun and games. Alumni can participate in a flag football game and go head-to-head with undergraduates in tennis, kickball, volleyball and Kan Jam. The Panhellenics will also host a 5K color run/walk.
On the field and in the pool, the men’s soccer team and the swimming and diving team will each take on Marist. Both competitions will feature alumni events — a soccer alumni game before the match and a swimming and diving alumni gathering before the meet.
Throughout the day, seasonal brews will be available in the Beer Garden of Eatin’, as well as a variety of food truck fare. Entertainment will accompany the food and drink. Rider’s own faculty/staff band, Auld Skül, will take the stage alongside the sounds of 107.7 The Bronc, the University’s student-run radio station. Rider's dance team, cheerleaders and the reigning Cranberry Queen will be on hand to add to the festivities.
Alumni will also have the chance to see Rider from a whole new perspective during Homecoming by taking a hot air balloon ride above campus.
In addition to alumni, faculty, staff and current students are welcome to attend and participate in Homecoming.
Everyone is encouraged to bring a canned or boxed food item to support Rider's community food drive initiative. Details are on the Homecoming website, where you can also see the full schedule of events and register.
