Faculty and staff members will participate in professional development at Harvard and UVA
Professional development programs at Harvard University and the University of Virginia await the 2015-16 recipients of the Mazzotti Awards in Women’s Leadership.
The Mazzotti Leadership Committee announced this year’s recipients at a Mazzotti leadership event on the Princeton campus on Thursday, Nov. 12. They are Associate Director of Human Resources Donna Disbrow, Associate Professor of Graduate Education, Leadership and Counseling Karen Gischlar and Associate Dean of Students at Westminster Choir College Cindy Threatt.
Disbrow will participate in The Women’s Leadership Program sponsored by the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. Led by senior businesswomen and faculty, the program focuses on corporate culture, communication, conflict management, crisis leadership and decision-making under pressure. Disbrow plans to use this experience to establish a formal mentoring program for women administrators at Rider and to take a more active leadership role within human resources.
Gischlar will participate in The Women in Education Leadership program offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The program focuses on how senior leaders navigate the multiple responsibilities and constituencies of their roles within a higher education setting. Gischlar looks forward to utilizing the experience to complement her work as co-chair of the Academic Prioritization Committee and to further advance her leadership training.
Threatt will attend the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education program offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The intensive, two-week program focuses on the challenges of working in higher education, the importance of organizational change and the benefits of personal renewal. Threatt will use the experience to enhance her work as Westminster’s newest associate dean of students, promoting a campus environment that engages and nurtures students.
Joan Mazzotti ’72, former chair of the Rider University Board of Trustees, and husband Michael Kelly, established the awards in 2006 to facilitate professional development of women faculty and staff in the Rider community — specifically in helping them to progress to positions of leadership.
