Featuring works by J.S. Bach, Schubert, Debussy and Ginastera.
The Westminster Choir College Faculty Recital Series will present soprano Rochelle Ellis on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the campus of Westminster Choir College in Princeton. She will be joined by Akiko Hosaki, piano; Orion Rapp, oboe; and the chamber choral ensemble Canticum Novum Admission is free.
The program will include J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 84, Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke. Additionally Ellis will perform songs by Schuber, selections from Debussy’s Cinq Poèmes de Baudelaire and Ginastera’s Cinco Canciones Populares Argentina, Op. 10.
Rochelle Ellis is an adjunct assistant professor of voice at Westminster Choir College and a voice instructor at Princeton University. She has distinguished herself in the concert hall and on the opera stage. She is a frequent soloist with the Berkshire Choral Festival in Massachusetts and with Princeton Pro Musica and VOICES. Active in both Rider University and community outreach, Ellis teaches voice within the Rider EOP summer pre-college program, Westminster Conservatory High School Summer Vocal Institute, and many other community organizations in the area
Collaborative pianist, Akiko Hosaki frequently performs in the New York, Philadelphia and Princeton areas. Since moving to the United States in 1998, she has worked with several opera companies. She also works as the music director for the High School Solo Vocal Artist Camp at Westminster Choir College and collaborates regularly with Westminster faculty performances.
Principal Oboist of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Orion Rapp has also performed with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Lyric Opera. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Rutgers University studying with Nathan Hughes.
Established in 2011, Canticum Novum is a chamber ensemble composed of Westminster Choir College students. The ensemble’s mission is to learn various techniques acquired from different time periods and apply them to the diversely challenging repertoire of the group, which includes compositions by the students themselves. Canticum Novum aspires to enrich the creative climate at Westminster Choir College.
