The Rider Council for Exceptional Children is a student-led organization that regularly works in the community
On Friday, Oct. 30, the Rider Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) hosted a Halloween Bingo event for young adults with disabilities from the community in the Mercer Room of Daly Dining Hall.
About 40 Rider students and 20 guests attended the event, which included bingo, games, pizza and other Halloween-related activities. The chapter hosts regular events throughout the year for young adults with disabilities in the community, and professional development for its members.
“Many of our guests have completed school and there is a need for community recreational activities for them,” says Michele Kamens, Rider’s director of special education and a CEC advisor. “Our CEC students are great at providing opportunities for them to interact with peers of the same age.”
The Rider Council for Exceptional Children is a student-led effort that is part of the Council for Exceptional Children, an international professional organization for all those who serve individuals with disabilities, including teachers, families, administrators and teacher educators.
"The Council for Exceptional Children at Rider University takes pride in creating safe and engaging events for the community of individuals with disabilities,” says Jacqueline Larounis '16, the group’s president. “We were so pleased with the influx of guests and members at the annual Halloween Bingo, and we hope this increased participation continues.”
