Employers will provide information and advice on job opportunities
Rider University will present its 2nd Annual Veteran Career Fair and Military Expo on Thursday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, 2083 Lawrenceville Road. The event is free for veteran and military members and their families. Beginning at 11 a.m. the fair will also be open to the general public and students.
Approximately 100 local employers will be in attendance at the fair to provide information on job opportunities, career and networking advice, and resume writing. There will be three break-out sessions presented during the fair including The Basics of Resume Writing and Interviewing; Enhancing Your Job Search and Selling Yourself; and Entrepreneurial Skills.
Participants are asked to bring multiple copies of their resume to the fair. Computer stations with internet access and printers will be available for fair participants.
“Veterans and military personnel possess many skills that today’s employers find valuable such as leadership, project management and decision making," says Russel Melville, Rider's coordinator of Veterans Affairs. "The benefits of hiring veterans are vast, so giving potential employers the opportunity to meet these individuals personally is beneficial for all who participate.”
Frank Colavita, a recruiter at Northwestern Mutual in Princeton, attended last year’s event. He says, “Rider is providing an outstanding service to veterans and students. The quality and preparedness of the attendees at the career fair were bar-none the best I have ever seen in my 11-year career as a recruiter.”
Colavita says as a result of last year’s career fair, he hired a Marine reservist and a 2013 Rider graduate who became one of the company’s top 10% producers in the past year.
The event is free for employers and job seekers. Pre-registration is requested online at www.rider.edu/veterancareerfair, calling 609-896-5033 or emailing [email protected].
The fair is being presented in conjunction with the American Legion, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Hero2Hired, and New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
