by Anne Sears
The 2011 Westminster High School Music Theater Workshop will conclude with two performances on Sunday, July 31 in the Yvonne Theater on Rider University’s campus in Lawrenceville. Admission to both is free, and the public is invited to attend.
At 11 a.m. participants in the program will present a fast-paced one-hour showcase that includes favorite Broadway songs and dances. At 1 p.m. they will present a concert version of Working the musical adaptation of Studs Terkel’s award-winning book. The Broadway production of the play won two Drama Desk Awards and was nominated for six Tony Awards.
Now in its 15th year, Westminster’s summer High School Music Theater Workshop is a two-week program for high school performers who are Broadway bound. It includes classes in acting, choreography, voice, and musicianship, as well as ensemble vocal rehearsals and individual coaching. Every participant performs in the concert version of a Broadway musical, and many also perform in the final showcase.
