Featuring George Friderich Handel's Chandos anthem Let God Arise and works by Buxtehude and Monteverdi.
Westminster Kantorei, conducted by Amanda Quist, will present a concert, titled 'Let God Arise' on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 8 p.m. at Princeton Meadow Church and Event Center;.
The program will feature George Friderich Handel's Chandos anthem Let God Arise, movements of Membra Jesu Nostri by Dietrich Buxtehude and works by Claudio Monteverdi.
Founded in 2004, the Westminster Kantorei is an auditioned chamber choir specializing in early and contemporary music. The ensemble, which is composed of 22 graduate and undergraduate students, performs regularly with some of America's leading specialists in Baroque music, including collaborations with violinist Nancy Wilson and vocal ensemble Fuma Sacra, They have commissioned and premiered many works by such composers as Caleb Burhans, James Blachly, Doug Helvering, Philip Rice, Nathan Jones and Stefan Young. Last year the ensemble premiered new works by Blake Henson, Daniel Elder and the internationally acclaimed Swedish composer Sven-David Sandström, commissioned for the ensemble by the Soli Deo Gloria Foundation and the Westminster Choir College Department of Sacred Music. Westminster Kantorei, joined by Fuma Sacra and the Institute Festival Orchestra, can be heard on the Albnay recording Jon Magnussen: Music for Limon Dances.
As a member of the Westminster Choir College faculty, Amanda Quist conducts the Westminster Chapel Choir and Westminster Kantorei and teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting. She also served as a conductor of the Westminster Symphonic Choir during the 2011-2012 season, during which she collaborated with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra, Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, and Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. She also premiered new works for the ensemble’s women and the Westminster Festival Orchestra by composers Ola Gjeilo and Tarik O’Regan. Dr. Quist is director of the Westminster Vocal Institute and a member of the summer faculty of the Westminster Choral Festival and Westminster Chamber Choir programs. Prior to her appointment at Westminster, she was director of choral activities at San José State University. Dr. Quist earned her D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of North Texas and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education and choral conducting from Western Michigan University.
