A musical comedy masterpiece and winner of 5 Tony Awards.
Westminster Choir College will present the musical-comedy masterpiece The Drowsy Chaperone Friday, March 4 through Sunday, March 6 in the Princeton Regional Schools Performing Arts Center at Princeton High School.
Winner of five Tony Awards, The Drowsy Chaperone begins as a die-hard musical theater fan plays the cast album of the 1928 chestnut The Drowsy Chaperone in his dingy apartment. The show magically bursts into life onstage, and the audience is rocketed into the glamorous world of a celebrity bride on her hilarious wedding day.
The cast is composed of students at Rider University’s Westminster College of the Arts. Graduates of Westminster’s music theater program have gone on to successful careers on and off-Broadway. Russell Fischer, who graduated in 2008, is now appearing on Broadway in the role of Joe Pesci in the hit Jersey Boys. Matt Taylor, who graduated in 2009, is appearing as Rum Tum Tugger in the national touring company of Cats.
Director and music director Nathan Hurwitz has enjoyed a lengthy career as a conductor, arranger and keyboard player. His Broadway theater credits include serving as music director, conductor, associate conductor, orchestrator or keyboardist for Blood Brothers, Dream and Phantom of the Opera. His international tours include Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and his U.S. tours include Blood Brothers, Company, The Who’s “Tommy” and Annie. Before joining Rider’s faculty, he served on the faculty at Syracuse University’s Department of Drama.
Performances of The Drowsy Chaperone will be Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. The Princeton Regional Schools Performing Arts Center at Princeton High School is located on Walnut Lane at Franklin Street in Princeton.
Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Discounts are available for groups of 8 or more. To purchase tickets call the box office at 609-921-2663 or online at www.rider.edu/arts.
