Celebrate the season with Westminster on the radio and the Web.
by Anne Sears
You don't have to be in Princeton to enjoy performances by some of Westminster’s choir’s this holiday season – just near a television, radio or computer.
Monday, December 20 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 25 at 3 p.m. WWFM The Classical Network will broadcast An Evening of Readings and Carols, Westminster’s annual holiday concert featuring five choirs, organ and brass, performed in the Princeton University Chapel. The program features a dramatic processional, classic and contemporary holiday music and carols sung by the choirs and the audience. The program also will be streamed on the WWFM Web site throughout the month of January. For details go to www.wwfm.org.
“Noël: A Christmas from Paris,” with host Bill McGlaughlin and the Westminster Choir, Joe Miller, director; mezzo-soprano and Westminster alumna Jennifer Larmore and organist Ken Cowan will be broadcast nationally through Public Radio International (PRI) on many public radio stations throughout the month of December. Based on the recently released CD Noël, which features the same artists, the program includes a survey of several centuries of French Christmas music. Consult your local listings for broadcast dates and times.
The Westminster Concert Bell Choir and director Kathleen Ebling Shaw helped the nation ring in the holidays performing at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which was broadcast nationally on NBC. The choir joined singer Josh Groban to perform his new song “The Bells of New York City.” The live broadcast also featured Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Charice, Sheryl Crow, Jackie Evancho, Katherine Jenkins, Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, Jessica Simpson and The Radio City Rockettes performing a mix of current hits and holiday classics. The show was co-hosted by Natalie Morales and Al Roker from NBC's "Today” show.
