Performing original works that have been transformed by another composer
Westminster Choir College will present pianist William Hobbs in a program titled “Masterworks Transformed” on Sunday, October 5 at 3 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the campus of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. Admission is free.
He will perform original works that have been transformed by another composer, including Brahms' transcription of Bach's Chaconne in D Minor from Partita No. 2 for solo violin; Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise, Op. 22; Liszt's Paraphrase on Verdi's Rigoletto and Liebermann's Evening Prayer and Dream, Concert Transcription from Humperdinck's Hänsel ind Gretel, as well as three movements from Stavinsky's Pétrouchka.
A member of the faculty at Westminster Choir College faculty, William Hobbs also works at many of the world’s major opera houses as conductor and coach. These include the Opéra National de Paris, the Salzburg Festival, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Seattle Opera, Washington Opera and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. His repertoire ranges from Handel to the European avant-garde, as well as works by Slavic composers and a number of premieres by American composers He has assisted conductors and has worked closely with such singers as Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Olga Borodina, Frederica von Stade, Roberto Alagna, Paul Groves, Placido Domingo, Rod Gilfry, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sam Ramey.
