Dear Rider Community,
Planning for the start of the fall 2020 semester and the integration of students, faculty and staff from Westminster Choir College in Princeton has continued through the holiday break. Student Affairs and the Office of Residence Life have finalized the housing assignments for Westminster Choir College students based upon their consistently stated desire to live together as a community on the Lawrenceville campus.
I'm pleased to share with you information about how we are accommodating their wishes, while at the same time preparing the broader Rider student body for the integration of the two campuses.
Beginning in September, Westminster students who wish to do so will have the opportunity to live together as a community on the Lawrenceville campus, as stated in the new 2020-21 housing plans for new and returning Westminster students.
Dr. Leanna Fenneberg, who is the chair of the Student Affairs Working Group and the vice president for student affairs, announced the following plans last week in a message to Westminster students and their families:
• Incoming first-year students who wish to do so can choose to live within a Westminster Choir College Living Learning Community, which for 2020-21 will be assigned to Kroner Hall — a residence hall that will house 12 practice rooms in the lower level. We intend to sustain the Westminster Choir College Living Learning Community for subsequent years, in alignment with the structure of the existing University-wide Living Learning Community program designed to meet the transitional needs of all first-year students.
• Returning students will have the option of selecting one of nine available residential facilities on campus. Additionally, for one transition year (2020-21), returning Westminster students will have the opportunity to select an option to live with one another in spaces reserved in Gee Hall.
As Dr. Fenneberg also previously announced, Westminster students and their families should expect more detailed information from Residence Life about the process and timeline associated with housing selections shortly.
We hope Westminster students will take advantage of the opportunity to tour residence halls during the Prelude event on the afternoon of Friday, February 7 — an important event that will help the broader student body connect to each other.
I'm grateful for the work of the Student Affairs Working Group and the leadership of Dr. Fenneberg in being responsive to student interests related to such an important aspect of student life. Working together as a community in such a manner is the most effective way we will accomplish our shared goal of ensuring a strong and sustainable future for Westminster Choir College.
Sincerely,
DonnaJean Fredeen, Ph.D.
