Dear Rider Community,
The University's response to the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve as the situation changes moment to moment. Our highest priority is the health and safety of our campus community, and we are taking additional actions now to minimize exposure to the virus and limit its spread. Our goal is to balance that priority while also allowing for academic continuity so that students are able to complete their academic work for the spring semester.
As previously announced, spring break is extended an extra week, through March 27. We are announcing today that all classes scheduled to begin or resume after the extended spring break will move to remote and alternative instruction beginning March 30 and will continue for at least two weeks, through April 10. Students will receive an email shortly from their deans with more detailed information. Because of the nature of this crisis, we are continually evaluating circumstances and new information as it becomes available. We are planning to announce more information about University operations on or by April 3.
We strongly encourage all resident students who are able to return home to do so and stay home until further notice. This will help reduce the risk associated with living in close proximity to each other. We know that, for a variety of reasons, some students cannot return home. Rider is committed to supporting these students. Please know that those who cannot return home will be able to remain on campus in consultation with Residence Life and with food, maintenance, Public Safety and other services provided. For those students who cannot return home because of extenuating circumstances, we ask you to complete this form. Students will receive more information shortly from Residence Life concerning residence hall departures.
Most University events are canceled during both weeks of spring break and while remote instruction is in place. One exception is Admissions-related events, which are being handled on a case by case basis. Information about the status of upcoming events is available on Rider's website, which will be continually updated as new information becomes available.
We recognize that the outbreak and its repercussions are causing significant disruptions. We assure you that these difficult decisions are being made with compassion and careful deliberation and being informed by the guidance of top public officials.
The University remains open. There are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus among students, faculty and staff on either campus at Rider University.
This extraordinary situation has challenged our entire community. We appreciate your patience as we've worked hard to carefully make decisions in the best interest of our campus community, including the most vulnerable among us. We understand that questions remain, such as those regarding on-campus student employment, Commencement and other issues. We respectfully ask that you continue to be patient while we work to address such concerns.
More information is forthcoming. We will continue to keep you updated via your Rider email and www.rider.edu/coronavirus. Students who have additional questions or concerns can contact the Dean of Students office at 609-896-5101 or email [email protected]. We are listening to your concerns.
Rider University's Coronavirus Task Force is meeting regularly to help Rider respond thoughtfully to this public health emergency. Working together is the most effective way we will stay strong and stay healthy.
