Dear Rider Community,
Last evening we were informed that a Westminster Conservatory instructor has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The instructor has received medical treatment and is self-isolating. We extend our collective thoughts for a full recovery.
The University notified the limited number of individuals who were in direct contact with the Conservatory instructor on the Princeton campus and directed them to self-isolate for 14 days. The building that was accessed by the Conservatory instructor, Princeton Hall, is currently closed and being thoroughly cleaned.
On March 16, the University announced a Westminster Conservatory student and their parents had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, all on-campus private instruction, lessons and classes offered through the Conservatory on the Princeton campus and its extension sites were suspended until further notice. This remains in effect.
At this time we are not aware of any additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students, faculty or staff on the Princeton or Lawrenceville campuses aside from the Conservatory instructor and the Conservatory student. These two cases are not related. However, as the virus continues to spread so rapidly in New Jersey and beyond, it is reasonable to expect that the number of confirmed cases among our University community may grow.
Therefore, we will be creating a Confirmed Cases page on our website, which you can find at www.rider.edu/coronavirus. In the event we have additional confirmed cases among our campus community, we will provide information on that page as needed.
We appeal to our entire Rider University community to heed all warnings from state and federal officials to help control the spread of this virus. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed. Social distancing is vitally essential.
