A letter from Senior Associate Provost and Dean of Libraries Riccardi
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Continue your research at home by taking advantage of the many library resources and services already online at the Libraries’ website at library.rider.edu.
While the libraries may be physically closed, staff and librarians are working hard to fulfill your information and research needs and help you succeed this semester. We want to make you aware of what we are virtually offering. For a full list of services, please visit https://guides.rider.edu/covid19changes.
Need help finding or obtaining a resource, or adjusting your research assignment? Please ask!
**Extended Due Dates**
- At this time, all due dates that fall between Sept. 1, 2019, to May 13, 2020, will be extended to 5/13/2020. Fines for this period are waived. We will reevaluate this policy at a future date if necessary.
- The book drop is available at Talbott Library to return books through an outside slot. The book drop is NOT available at Moore Library since no outside slot exists.
Research Assistance
- Virtual Research Assistance: email, text, and chat research assistance are live during reference desk hours: Librarians will keep our regular semester service hours: please check library.rider.edu for each library’s reference hours.
- Research Appointments: Librarians can also provide research assistance via web conference (Zoom) by appointment. Please contact your librarian directly or connect with the librarian on duty: [email protected] or guides.rider.edu/ask. Librarian responses may be delayed due to COVID-19, so contact the librarian on duty if necessary.
Online Access to Library Materials
- Online databases, journals, and ebooks will continue to be available 24/7 when accessed via library.rider.edu. Please log in with your Rider Key. If you should have trouble accessing a database, please contact a librarian [email protected] or guides.rider.edu/ask.
**Expanded Access to Ebooks and Journals**
- Many databases and publishers are offering temporary free access to thousands of ebooks and journals through the end of May or June to help with the inability to obtain physical items at the library or through Interlibrary Loan. Access to these materials is restricted to Rider University users.
- We are working to seamlessly integrate these temporary resources into our catalog and databases, so you will find them in a regular search. (This depends on what metadata the vendors provide us.)
- For a list of participating publishers and vendors as we add them, please visit: https://guides.rider.edu/covid19changes. We will note access options.
Research Instruction
- Synchronous Instruction If you already have a face-to-face library instruction session scheduled for this semester and would like to move that session to an online format, please contact your Subject Librarian. If you would like to schedule an online library instruction session, please put in a request using our Research Request Instruction Form.
- Asynchronous Instruction Check out our Research Guides and Tutorials. Don't see something that meets your needs? Contact your Subject Librarian to discuss creating a tutorial or research guide for your class.
Interlibrary Loan
- Only requests for electronic materials will be obtained. Borrowers will be notified by e-mail when the item is received and how to access the requested electronic materials. **Delivery of requested materials may be delayed due to COVID-19.**
- Book and book chapter requests will be checked against publishers’ free access and/or considered for ebook purchasing.
