July 21, 2022, letter from the Rider University Collective Bargaining Team to faculty and staff
Dear Colleagues,
Yesterday we met for our fifth bargaining session with the AAUP leadership to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement. During the meeting, the University presented one of its major proposals regarding shared governance and the creation of a Faculty Senate.
One of the administration’s main priorities for the new collective bargaining agreement is to establish the proper balance of managerial functions, while working within a consultative shared governance environment. The University’s proposal made clear that it recognizes the value of a governance system in areas of academic concern and the important role faculty members play in that process.
Discussion regarding governance and the creation of a Faculty Senate, along with other major issues including the critical need to reduce costs to better position Rider and improve its financial stability, will continue during future bargaining sessions. We will meet again next Wednesday, July 27.
It remains our full intention to have a new agreement in place by September 1, 2022.
Sincerely,
The Rider University Collective Bargaining Team
