Popular community event is held at Rider University
Lawrence Township has announced that the 2020 Fourth of July fireworks are canceled.
The popular community event, which was scheduled for July 1, 2020, is held annually at Rider University.
An announcement on the township's website cited the coronavirus pandemic and associated restrictions for large gatherings by Gov. Murphy's executive order as the reasons for canceling.
"The Township must make decisions that are based upon the community’s best interest," the announcement said. "In this situation, the Township determined that it could not adequately protect the attendees from the health and safety risks posed by the virus."
The Township also said that it "hopes that the fireworks event can be incorporated with another event at a later date this year."
