Alumni, family and friends welcome to participate
Rider University welcomes all volunteers to participate in its partnership with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday in Daly Dining Hall to assist with food preparation and packaging, and to sanitize and store delivery equipment. To volunteer for Meals on Wheels, please email [email protected]. Rider students, faculty and staff also receive monthly emails with a link to sign up to volunteer.
Rider and Meals on Wheels are also looking for volunteers for the Friendly Visitor Program. The program connects students with local seniors who participate in Meals on Wheels via phone, FaceTime, Zoom or in person. Students participating in the program will be able to meet in person to learn about the effects of aging and support each other as they develop their one-on-one relationship with their senior. For more information or to sign up for the Friendly Visitor Program, please email [email protected].
Since 2018, Rider and Gourmet Dining, the University’s food service provider, have partnered with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County to provide thousands of meals each week to local residents. Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers dietary specific meals to homebound individuals who are unable to cook and/or shop for themselves. The majority of Meals on Wheels participants are at a critical point of food insecurity where, without the program, they may be forced to choose between food and other financial commitments.
