Rider shares title with Iona, takes second seed in MAAC Tournament
The Rider University men's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Mount St. Mary's to claim a share of its second-ever MAAC regular season title on Nov. 6. The title is the Broncs’ first since the team’s inaugural year in the league in 1997.
Second-half goals by junior William Baker, junior Momo Diop and senior Dylan Kotch earned the win.
“We put together a good second half, and I'm really happy with the overall performance and overall regular season and obviously [the] co-champion situation,” says Head Coach Chad Duernberger.
Rider (12-4-1, 6-1-1 MAAC) shares the title with Iona (8-4-3, 6-1-1 MAAC), who defeated Saint Peter's, 4-0. By virtue of a 1-0 win on Sept. 28, Iona takes the top seed in the MAAC Championship, while the Broncs claim the second seed. Both teams are guaranteed home games in the MAAC Championship through the semifinals, should they advance.
The Broncs will face seventh-seeded Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at home on Ben Cohen Field.
