by Rider Sports Information
For the second consecutive year, the Rider men's track and field team has won the MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships (MAAC). Rider finished the weekend with 190 points overall and four gold medals, as seniors Artie Burgess and Devynn Lee, as well as junior Jayden DuBard, all finished first in their respective events.
The Broncs finished with a total of 16 medal winners and Head Coach Bob Hamer was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his career. This is Rider’s third indoor title in program history.
“I'm really excited and proud of the men,” says Hamer. “We needed a total team effort and they brought it this weekend. Every time we needed some big points the men responded.”
Burgess, who finished second in the 60-meter last year, captured his first MAAC indoor 60-meter crown after running a 6.77 in the finals.
DuBard won the shot put in the field with a new personal record mark of 16.30 meters. He also had a bronze medal finish in the weight throw. Senior Abraham Ohiokhai-Benson also showed up in the shot put with a fourth place finish after setting a new personal record of 14.33 meters.
On day two, Lee secured an impressive gold medal finish in the triple jump. He earned gold in the high jump on day one. Lee was named MAAC Most Outstanding Field Performer.
