by Rider Sports Information
Rider University graduate student-athlete Teagan Schein-Becker has been accepted into the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in both the 800 and 1500 meters, USA Track and Field recently announced. Schein-Becker's time of 2:00.54 in the 800 meters at the Portland Track Festival on June 9 positioned her just outside the automatic qualifying mark, while her time of 4:08.85 in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Quarterfinals in late May punched her ticket.
"It feels like a dream come true to be in this position and get to race in the Olympic trials," says Schein-Becker. "My coaches and teammates helped me reach my goals, and I feel super excited to enter into this new era."
The first competition in the 800 meters takes place on Friday, June 21, at 7:17 p.m. at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, with semifinals and finals to follow on June 23 and 24, respectively. Competition in the 1500 meters begins Thursday, June 27, at 8:23 p.m., with the semifinals and finals to follow on June 28 and 30, respectively.
A Second Team All-American after finishing 11th in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Championships on June 8, Schein-Becker becomes the first track and field athlete from Rider to compete at Olympic Trials since Emily Ritter ’15 competed at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
