Dear Rider community,
The reprehensible attack on Israel and the escalating war with Hamas reminds us that hate and violence remain disgustingly prevalent in our wider world. At Rider University, we condemn this deplorable act of terrorism and the devastating human tragedy that we are witnessing take place in Israel and the Gaza region.
The effects of the war have had impacts close to home, as we know of several Rider students, faculty and staff who have family and friends living in and around that region, or who are from that region themselves. We can’t begin to understand how distraught and scared they must be. Please keep those personally pained by this horror and their loved ones in your thoughts and provide support and compassion however possible. We pray for a swift and peaceful end to the violence and human suffering.
Rider University is an inclusive community that strives to maintain an environment that upholds our commitment to embrace, respect and value the diverse voices, experiences and perspectives that shape our community. Our campus is a place where all students, faculty and staff feel welcomed, safe and supported. One opportunity to participate in constructive dialogue will take place tomorrow, during a teach–in scheduled by the faculty of Rider’s Department of Government, Politics and Law. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend to discuss the current situation in Israel, as well as the historical context. Details of the event are below.

Rider offers resources to all members of our community who may find themselves in need of support. The Counseling Center offers a broad range of free and confidential services for currently enrolled students. In addition to its existing services, counselors are offering a safe space for Jewish students to meet with counselors of Jewish faith as well as undertaking support and outreach to students of Palestinian and Middle Eastern descent.
Employees can access the free and confidential PennMedicine Employee Assistance Program. PennMedicine has provided information, via the email sent to faculty, staff and students today, which outlines resources available to help you and your family stay emotionally healthy during traumatic events.
This is a painful moment in time, and we recognize that members of our community may be affected differently. Please embrace a spirit of kindness, as you may not know what someone else is personally experiencing. In the uncertain days ahead, expressions of empathy and understanding are the steps we can all take to make a difference.
