Making a Difference
Allie served as community outreach chair for Rider's Association of Commuting Students, where she did volunteer work with the Millhill Child and Family Development Center in Trenton, organized food drives and other community-focused efforts.
Professional Preparation
Allie gained real-world experience through an internship with Community News Service, a private newspaper group in Lawrenceville that publishes monthly papers such as the Lawrence Gazette, Hamilton Post and Princeton Echo.
"I fell in love with Rider's small campus and personalized approach to education. I also liked that the Journalism department offered so many different concentrations and internship opportunities,” Allie said. “At Rider, you're a name, not just a number. You won’t find any lecture halls with hundreds of students here. Instead, the classes are small and the professors get to know you as a person. Rider cares."

Rider's impact on Allie's career
"I went there with a healthy, active interest in journalism but Rider ignited my passion and determination to pursue a career in the field.” Rider also influenced Allie’s decision to go to graduate school. “I got involved with The Rider News as a freshman and it turned out to be the most valuable experience of my college career. As a Journalism major, it was great to have that built-in, hands-on opportunity right there on campus."
Continued success
Allie went on to become the executive editor of The Rider News. After earning her bachelor's degree in 2011, she enrolled in the prestigious Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. "One of my student colleagues at The Rider News, who was a few years ahead of me, studied journalism at NYU and I kind of followed in her footsteps after hearing more about the program," said Allie, who is now a digital news reporter at Newsmax Media in New York. "That was just one of the many things that grew from networking with different people at Rider."
