Mike served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps.
Why Mike chose Rider
After spending his last 10 years serving in the United States Marine Corps, Mike was on a mission to find his new home: A school that gave him a sense of belonging where he wasn’t just a statistic. From the moment he became acquainted with Rider, Mike was immediately drawn to the University’s warm and welcoming community.
Since Mike was entering Rider as a transfer student, he worried that the admissions process would be difficult. However, before applying, he worked with a transfer admission counselor to complete an unofficial transcript evaluation to find out how many of his previous credits might transfer.
Ultimately, this positive experience, alongside his overall seamless transfer process and the help he received from the dedicated staff in both the Admissions and Veterans and Military Affairs Office led Mike to choose Rider.
“When doing my research on where to transfer to, not only were Rider’s staff more responsive than any other school I looked at, but they took a genuine interest in me and my goals.”
Rider’s impact on Mike
Mike continues to take advantage of the various opportunities offered at the University that help students to pursue their interests while gaining real-world experience. He is currently serving as the president of Rider’s Business of Sports club, and in spring 2022, he completed a sports marketing internship with Rider’s athletics department.
Additionally, he continues to fuse the skills he’s learned as a Marine with the skills he is currently learning at Rider to propel him toward his future success. Mike also believes that attending the University constantly reinforces to him the value of making strong connections. “Being at Rider has just amplified the importance of building relationships with people. Whether those relationships are through the classroom, organizations on campus, internships or even people that you just happen t see regularly. You never know how you may be able to help someone someday or vice versa.”
I would say that studying here has just reinforced that different personalities, opinions and views are not only accepted but encouraged. It helps develop your ability to broaden your scope in how you view things, ultimately causing us to learn from each other.”
Looking ahead
After graduation, Mike plans to head to North Carolina with the ultimate goal of earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He continues to encourage fellow and future Broncs to “take something from everyone they encounter.” “Taking something from everyone helps you build and develop the person you want to be. Learning doesn't stop once you leave Rider."
