Our Services
All of the services at the Academic Success Center are offered both in person and remotely
The Academic Success Center offers free academic support to all Rider students and is staffed by peer and professional tutors. All tutors are specially trained by ASC staff through our tutor training program. Our comprehensive tutoring services include:
Content Tutoring
Our Peer Tutors are successful Rider University undergraduate and graduate students, recommended by faculty and trained by our professional staff. They provide individual or group tutoring sessions – free of charge, for most content courses offered at Rider. Students review course content and develop sound study strategies with successful peers who have already mastered the material.
Writing Studio
The Writing Studio is staffed by Student Writing Consultants and Professional Tutors who assist students with writing across the disciplines at any stage in the writing process. The Student Writing Consultants are undergraduate and graduate students who are specially trained by the Writing Studio Manager before they begin tutoring. Additionally, faculty, staff, and professional tutors provide supplemental training to ensure the Student Writing Consultants effectively assist students with their writing processes. Many of the student consultants have successfully completed a semester-long course, Theories of Writing and Tutoring.
NCE, CPCE and Praxis Support
Students may schedule individual appointments with peer or professional staff to prepare for taking the Praxis, NCE, and CPCE exams.
Supplemental Instruction
Our Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are peer tutors who collaborate with the course professor and specially trained Academic Success Center staff to assist students in specific courses. SI Leaders attend class and hold multiple review sessions each week. These specially trained tutors guide students as they review course content by utilizing creative, interactive study techniques.
Embedded Tutoring
Our Embedded Tutoring (ET) program provides Rider students with effective writing and reading support in participating CMP sections. ETs are successful Rider students who have earned A's in their writing classes, have been recommended by their professors, have a high GPA, and participate in weekly training sessions.
Professional Tutoring
Our Professional Tutors have advanced degrees and are available to work with students individually to improve their reading, writing, or study strategies, time management, and organizational strategies.
