Rider University’s African American studies minor explores the richness of the African American experience. Students will learn about important historical and contemporary figures and events that collectively contribute to what makes African American identity a part of who we are as a nation and beyond. The knowledge acquired in the African American studies minor will prepare students for graduate work and careers in a variety of areas, including academics, arts and culture organizations, government, public policy, the nonprofit sector, and professional careers.

No matter where you began your journey, Rider has the resources you need to continue moving forward. At Rider, transfer students are defined as students who are under the age of 25 and have credits from another college or university.
Rider offers flexible pathways for adult learners aged 25 or over, including veterans and active duty military personnel, that allow you to earn your bachelor's degree or take courses for personal enrichment. Non-matriculated or visiting students should apply using the Continuing Education application.
Our 18-credit program focuses on the sociopolitical, historical, scientific and cultural contributions of African Americans to U.S. society. Students will have opportunities to take courses in disciplines such as History, English, Political Science and Sociology.
