Rider University’s Independent Scholarship and Creative Activity Presentations (ISCAP) Day will showcase the outstanding academic and creative work of more than 60 undergraduate students. The program, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Sweigart Hall on Wednesday, May 4, will feature the annual Undergraduate Research Scholars Awards (URSA), a poster session and panel presentations.
Each year, the URSA Committee presents $5,000 research scholarships to at least five students across the University. The URSA program was established during the 2003-04 academic year to enhance collaborative work between students and faculty and to heighten the intellectual atmosphere on campus. Students can work directly with faculty on joint research projects or on independent projects under the supervision of a faculty member.
This year’s URSA Session will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Sweigart Auditorium. During the session, 2011-12 URSA recipients will discuss their proposed projects, and URSA Scholars from the 2010-11 academic year will also present their findings. Research categories will range from “Explorations in Ethnomusicology” and “Economic Challenges in the Americas” to “Current Advances in Cancer Research,” “Class, Culture and Conflict, and “Teaching for the 21st Century.”
Following the awards session, a poster session will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on the bottom floor of Sweigart Hall, where the Rider community will have a chance to interact with students stationed with their posters describing their research. Topics will range from American propaganda during World War II and implications in neurochemistry of schizophrenia to perceived discrimination and prevalence of depression and anxiety among Muslim youth.
The end of the program will feature seven panel presentations, which will be held in various rooms in Sweigart Hall. The schedule includes:
