A mad-cap adventure, filled with zany characters, impossible plot twists and turns, mistaken identities…and a surprise ending!
Rider University will present the musical Lucky Stiff in the Yvonne Theater on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J., Wednesday, Oct. 8, through Sunday, Oct. 12. A preview performance will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and performances will be Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. The production, directed by Nathan Hurwitz, will be performed by Rider University students. Musical director is Wendy Feaver and choreographer is Kate Swan,.
With book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, Lucky Stiff revolves around Harry Witherspoon, a shy British shoe salesman, who finds that an uncle he never knew has died and left him $6 million. To collect his inheritance, Harry must take his uncle’s body to Monte Carlo for one last vacation! But gangsters are hot on his trail to get the money for themselves. What follows is a mad-cap adventure, all at a frantic pace, filled with zany characters, impossible plot twists and turns, mistaken identities…and a surprise ending!
Nathan Hurwitz’s Broadway credits include Blood Brothers, Dream and Phantom of the Opera. Tours include Phantom, West Side Story, Blood Brothers, Company, The Who’s ‘Tommy,’ Annie and many more. Dr. Hurwitz’s most recent Rider University productions include A Chorus Line, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Nine, The Producers and A New Brain. A member of Actor’s Equity and the American Federation of Musicians, he taught acting and coached voice for many years privately, as well as at New York University, HB Studios, Point Park College, the University of Pittsburgh, Northwestern State University of Louisiana and Syracuse University.
Wendy Feaver is a graduate of the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York and she received a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre Piano at Rider University, where she is currently on the faculty as a vocal coach/accompanist. Her previous Rider music directing credits include Cole: A Cole Porter Revue, Homemade Fusion, Love Goes On and It's a Girl! Cabaret. Ms. Feaver is the co-founder of Waytago Productions, a theatre production company created to be a platform encouraging artists' creative aspirations.
Kate Swan is the artistic director at 4th Wall Theatre in New Jersey. She works regularly at the Fireside Theatre in Wisconsin and at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, N.Y. Her Off-Broadway and regional work includes the Wings Theatre in Manhattan’s West Village, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Seacoast Repertory Theatre, Lyric Stage (Irving, Texas), Surflight Theatre, Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre and Purdue University Theatre. Her directing projects range from LaChiusa’s The Wild Party to The Fantasticks to Disney’s High School Musical to Meet Me In St. Louis.
Tickets for the performances are $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the door, through the box office at 609-896-7775 or online. General admission preview tickets are $9 and are only available at the door. Tickets for Rider University students are $5.
