The Rider University Art Gallery will present an exhibit of paintings by Mel Leipzig Thursday, March 10 through Sunday, April 17. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m., and the artist will talk about his work on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m.
A resident of Trenton, N.J. and Professor of Art at Mercer County Community College, Mel Leipzig is a nationally recognized artist whose works are in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, The White House, the New Jersey State Museum, Montclair Art Museum, Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum for the Decorative Arts. His awards and recognitions include a Fulbright Traveling Fellowship, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, and a grant in painting from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2006 he was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Design in New York. The art critic Burton Wasserman has described him as “New Jersey’s Greatest Living Painter.”
Admission to this exhibit is free. The Rider University Art Gallery is located in the Bart Luedeke Center on Rider’s campus at 2083 Lawrenceville Rd in Lawrenceville.
