by Kristine A. Brown
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will present “The State of Politics Today: An Evening with Hon. Vincent Prieto,” Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly, on Tuesday, Sept. 23. A light reception begins at 6 p.m. and remarks begin at 7 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Mercer Room in Daly Dining Hall on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus.
“Speaker Prieto is a dominant player in state politics,” says Professor Ben Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics. “As part of our ongoing Governing New Jersey series, we are very excited that our students along with the general public will have a chance to speak with him about his views on a wide range of issues affecting our state.”
Speaker Prieto was first sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly in 2004, filling the unexpired term of Anthony Impreveduto. He was elected to his first full term on Nov. 8, 2005. He was elected Assembly Speaker on Jan. 14, becoming the second Cuban-American in state history to lead a legislative house.
Prieto represents the 32nd Legislative District, which includes the Bergen County municipalities of Edgewater and Fairview; and the Hudson County municipalities of East Newark, Guttenberg, Harrison, Kearny, North Bergen, Secaucus and West New York.
Advance reservations to attend “An Evening with Hon. Vincent Prieto” are requested by calling Susan Cuccia at 609-896-5350 or emailing [email protected].
