The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will host the former governor of Pennsylvania
by Kristine A. Brown
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will present “An Evening with Hon. Edward G. Rendell,” former governor of Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, April 1. A light reception begins at 6 p.m. Remarks begin at 7 p.m., followed by a question and answer session. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater.
Rendell, who served two terms as Pennsylvania’s governor from 2003-2011, will discuss the state of politics today and his views on the future of America.
“For decades, Ed Rendell has been a predominant figure in American politics," Professor Ben Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, says. "Offering our students and the public this unique opportunity to hear him speak firsthand on issues of importance to all of us, is a critical component of our mission both at the Rebovich Institute and the University.”
After 34 years of public service, including 24 years as an elected official, Rendell continues to pursue many of the same issues he was passionate about while serving, including his commitment to making America a cleaner, more efficient place and fostering investment in our nation's crumbling infrastructure.
Rendell served two terms as governor of Pennsylvania (2003-2011). His legislative agenda focused on commonsense political reform and putting progress ahead of partisanship. He also served two terms as mayor of Philadelphia (1992-2000).
Before serving as mayor, Rendell was elected District Attorney of Philadelphia for two terms from 1978 through 1985. He served as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 presidential election.
A Brookings Fellow, he currently sits on several boards and teaches government and politics courses at the University of Pennsylvania. Rendell recently finished his autobiography, A Nation of Wusses, which is scheduled to be released in June 2014.
