The annual event will take place this year on April 2-3, 2016
Rider's annual Relay For Life event will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3, 2016, in the Student Recreation Center. This year's Relay theme is "Hollywood - Lights, Camera, Action for a CURE" — and Relay will be the kick-off event to President Dell'Omo's week-long Inauguration celebration.
Students, faculty and staff can help support this event in several ways: sign-up as an individual participant, join/create a team, or simply donate to the cause today at www.relayforlife.org/rideruniversitynj. Faculty and staff are also strongly encouraged to participate in the event by joining one of the teams below or creating your own team.
Participate as an Individual or Join/Create a Team
- Bronc Brigade 2016 — The Office of Campus Life encourages all of its many faculty, staff and alumni partners to join our team to show solidarity and school spirit with the students in raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.
- Team CCR — Debbie Stasolla has organized a team in Cathy Carter Romero's honor. Join her crew for a few hours of fun with Canadian snacks, playing some Yuker and sharing favorite memories of Cathy.
Relay For Life has become a Rider University tradition. Since 2009, the program has raised more than $360,000 for the American Cancer Society. Rider’s Relay For Life has been named a three-time title holder as the “Top Performing College Relay in New Jersey” and has become the biggest student-run event on the Lawrenceville campus.
This event serves as a powerful way to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer, from helping people facing the disease in your community to ensuring cancer is a thing of the past for future generations. Rider's Relay For Life is an opportunity to honor the cancer survivors in your life, promote how you can reduce your cancer risk, and raise money to help find a cure. Today, with the support of thousands of Rider students and volunteers like you across the globe, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. And we won't stop until we end cancer once and for all!
Rider's Relay For Life will feature many activities throughout the evening, including a survivor/caregiver dinner at 6 p.m., opening ceremonies and a survivor lap at 7 p.m., and a Luminaria Ceremony and Memorial Hour at 10 p.m.to honor those who have lost their battle to cancer. The Relay will end at 5 a.m. on Sunday with a closing ceremony and awards.
Survivor/Caregiver Dinner
This free dinner is provided to honor individuals and families who have battled or cared for someone with cancer, serving as a celebration of the survivors who inspire us to keep fighting. All survivors and caregivers across campus are invited to participate. If you or someone you know is a survivor or caregiver and would like to attend the dinner at 6 p.m. on Saturday, please contact Rachael Passaro ([email protected]) or Christian Lazo ([email protected]).
Dedicate a Luminaria
Light a candle in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has had cancer, or in support of a caregiver. Your contribution will help save lives, give hope, and empower people through the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission. Traditional luminaria bags are $10 each and can be purchased at the event or in advance by clicking here.
Donate to Relay
Can't participate in the event in person? Click here to donate now. The American Cancer Society is putting your donation dollars to work now, investing in groundbreaking cancer research and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers. With your help, we aren't just fighting one type of cancer we're fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer, in your community and everyone else's. You are fueling our progress to end this disease!
