Rider's PSE chapter strives towards new goals for 2015-2016
by Michelle Wood
Nationwide organization Pi Sigma Epsilon is a foundation where students develop skills in sales, marketing and business fields through experimental learning and professional opportunities. Rider University’s chapter is taking Pi Sigma Epsilon to a new level this year with famous guest speakers, networking events and training workshops, along with participation in local, regional and national competitions.
“PSE helps you prepare for things that school and classes cannot,” says senior Dave Demchik '16, vice president of the marketing committee in PSE.
Rider’s PSE Chapter is open to all students and welcomes all majors. Members of PSE will have professional access to build and develop everyday skills needed in the workplace. No matter what students are majoring in, they will be able to join a PSE committee that excels in their preferred area of expertise, such as public relations, marketing, human resources, finance and other business-related fields. Unlike most organizations, PSE also offers all members eligibility to run for executive positions.
With numerous opportunities to develop useful career-building skills, PSE allows students to meet and learn from professionals and experienced advocates in the industry. This year, PSE expects to host guest speakers from L'Oréal, the Philadelphia Phillies, Northwestern Mutual and the New York Jets. In addition, the chances to network with these companies, along with many other organizations, are exclusive to PSE members.
This nationwide organization also educates and trains students through fun, innovative systems. At Rider, members are taking their skills to a competition this Halloween weekend. Additionally, Rider’s Chapter hosts the annual Bronc Comp, which features events such as Shark Tank, public speaking contests and sales management games.
In the past, Rider’s chapter has also been fortunate enough to experience the PSE National Convention and Competition in Houston, Texas, and Miami, Fla. The upcoming nationals will be held during March 2016 in Milwaukee, Wis.
“Aside from being able to gain phenomenal experience that connects to the real world, the opportunity to meet and get to know incredibly driven and inspiring people throughout the country is a big reason I remain active,” says Devon Downs '16, president of Pi Sigma Epsilon. “With this opportunity, I have met lifelong friends who come from all over the country, and I am confident they will be the next generation of leaders and innovators in our world.”
PSE at Rider guarantees a fun experience while building key skills, confidence and networking experience through innovative events. Not only will it prepare students for the world after college, but it also helps to facilitate friendships that can last a lifetime.
General meetings are held every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in North Hall 130. Membership dues are still being accepted. For more information, contact Devon Downs at [email protected].
