Deborah Rosenthal edited a collection of Hélion's writings
Professor of Fine Arts Deborah Rosenthal will take part in a public conversation at New York University’s Maison Française on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The conversation with Matthew Affron, the Muriel and Philip Berman Curator of Modern Art, will be about the French painter, Jean Hélion.
In 2014, Rosenthal edited a collection of Hélion's writings in English, Double Rhythm: Writing on Painting By Jean Hélion (Arcade Publishing), for which she also wrote the introduction and notes. Rosenthal also organized a Hélion retrospective in 2012 at the Schroeder-Romero and Shredder Gallery in New York City.
Rosenthal has taught at Rider since 1989. She teaches all levels of studio and mentors art majors headed for careers in art and design. She designed the senior honors thesis and directs many students in independent study in art and in their senior thesis preparations. Some of the courses she has introduced to the Rider art curriculum and teaches include Special Topics in Studio: Abstraction, Drawing and Painting the Figure and Drawing at the Museum. She also curates exhibitions for the Rider University Gallery.
A painter in addition to a professor, Rosenthal most recently had a solo exhibition show at the Bowery Gallery in Chelsea.
