September will be a month to remember as Rider students have their first chances to attend events around campus during the fall semester while they settle into their academic schedule.
After a jam-packed fall opening, the fun continues on campus throughout the month, as summer officially turns to fall.
Here are five of the most fun events on tap at Rider in September.
1. I Love College
I Love College, the official back-to-college party, is just the place to shake off those beginning-of-the-semester nerves by dancing the night away. The party starts at 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, in the Student Recreation Center. A Rider ID and ticket is required for entrance. Tickets can be obtained in the Bart Luedeke Center Student Leadership Suite on Sept. 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
2. Cranberry Fest
With a barbecue, live music, games, giveaways, beer garden and more, this annual welcome-back event has been a student favorite since 1979. Students, faculty, staff and Rider families are invited to enjoy the event that celebrates Andrew J. Rider, the University's namesake.
Filling the Campus Mall with cranberry and white in honor of Rider who was nicknamed “The Cranberry King of New Jersey.”
Cranberry Fest takes place on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
3. R Factor
For both talented singers and entertainment-seeking audiences, the R Factor is a two-part, full production singing talent competition. Students can watch the competition heat up or take a shot at becoming Rider’s next R Factor Champion!
This annual event was named best campus tradition by the National Association of Campus Activities.
Auditions
Held in the Yvonne Theater on Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m.
Register to audition by emailing Nick Barbati at [email protected] or visiting BLC 119.
The R Factor Finals will be on Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in the BLC Theater.
4. Men’s Soccer vs. Monmouth
This game will have you holding onto your seats with the hOURglass rivalry that has been neck-and-neck in the past years. The Broncs were victorious when they faced Monmouth in the 2015 MAAC Championship game, but Monmouth won the last regular season game, 1-0. The two teams account for the last three MAAC champions, with Rider winning 2015, 2016 and Monmouth winning 2014.
The men’s soccer game versus Monmouth will be held Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. on the Ben Cohen Field.
5. Comedian Chico Bean
Class work and exams can be stressful. Relieve the strenuousness of school work by going to Chico Bean’s comedy show. The standup comedian has been performing for six years, and he just wrapped up a run in New York City’s the renowned Gotham Comedy Club for the Nick Cannon CBS Fresh Faces Comedy Showcase.
Chico Bean will perform on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater.
