Throughout March, the achievements of women will be highlighted
The Office of Multicultural Affairs and student group Rider Women United are partnering in the month of March to present a series of events for Women’s History Month. The activities will highlight achievements of women inside and outside of the University.
"I hope through these events in March women from all backgrounds will be inspired to reach for their career goals and be the best at it,” says Damali Smith, president of Rider Women United.
Throughout the month, Rider Women United will collect professional clothing to donate to women in the community for their future interviews and jobs. The club members have partnered with Dress for Success, an organization that receives donated suit jackets and pants for women to wear if they cannot afford them. There will be boxes placed in the Career Development & Success in the Bart Luedeke Center on the Lawrenceville campus to drop off items.
Rider students have created a production of feminine truth called “The Journey," which delves into the lives of minority women through three historical periods. "Through these times, women fight to find their voices and a safe haven in a society that continuously restrains them," says student producer Abi McCoy.
Students can participate in the creation of an inspirational mural on March 7 by placing sticky notes on the wall at Daly Dining Hall of women that inspire them. Daly's will also host a women's trivia night on March 23.
On March 28, special guest Whitney Derry will tell her story of working at an auto-mechanic company. She aims to inspire women and men to do what they want to do even if the field is dominated by men or women's job.
“Women’s History Month is a critical time of year and should be more widely recognized so that women around the world can feel confident and inspired in their daily endeavors," says Dr. Pamela Pruitt, director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. "To be a woman is the most rewarding privilege because we have made it so far in our rights, we cannot back down now. In the month of March, women are celebrated and that is a beautiful thing.”
