Jessica Hergert has been awarded the prestigious Gilman Scholarship, which will be put toward her financial costs while she is abroad for the 2017 spring semester. Jessica will be interning in Dublin, Ireland, at Griffith College with CAPA, an international education organization that provides academic programs abroad, gaining both academic credit and international work experience. Hergert is a journalism major with a minor in both biology and film and media studies and is excited to be embarking on her journey abroad to Ireland.
Rider's Center for International Education is proud to announce that each year a Rider study abroad student is awarded a Gilman Scholarship, which provides scholarship awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. In addition, the program strongly encourages students to study or intern abroad.
Gilman recipients are chosen based on a competitive selection process and are required to use the award money towards housing and travel costs while abroad. This year, the Gilman Scholarship program will award over 2,800 scholarships of up to $5,000 with the amounts varying depending of length of study and student need.
The upcoming deadline for Gilman Scholarships for summer and fall 2017 and Academic Year Abroad is March 7, 2017.
