While at Rider she was taking care of her child, working part-time, studying for the CPA exam, all while battling deadlines and class assignments.
She graduated the master’s program with distinction, and a GPA of 3.95
Rider provided her with resources and opportunities to ensure she had a successful career as well as personal growth.
Academic reputation, flexibility and employment opportunities were the driving force behind Sumandeep’s decision to enroll at Rider for her master’s degree. Originally from a small town in India, small class sizes were beneficial, and helped Sumandeep form close bonds with her fellow classmates and professors. The flexibility Rider offered helped her immensely, meaning she had the time to study, take care of her 1 year old child and work part-time.
Learning how to effectively manage her time has had a lasting impact on Sumandeep’s career. Graduating the master’s program with a GPA of 3.95 meant she had the tools to follow her passion and excel in her career. She struggled with public speaking, but now thanks to in-class presentations and various networking opportunities, she has found herself more confident in the workplace. “I learned to believe in myself and this wouldn’t have been possible without the tools Rider provided me with,” she said. Various internships and resources that were on offer to Sumandeep played a big role in landing her job as a senior tax accountant.
Rider University taught me to prioritize tasks and instilled the confidence to achieve anything if I set my mind to it.”
Sumandeep is currently working as a senior tax accountant for EisnerAmper. She prepares federal and multi-state tax filing for high net-worth individuals, partnerships, trusts and corporations. Her job involves a lot of high level analysis and documentation, made increasingly harder with the ever changing world of taxation.
Sumandeep’s advice for students: “Plan ahead, make and follow a schedule, use resources and get internships and co-op. And I live by the quote, ‘The secret to getting ahead is getting started.’ by Mark Twain.”
