Dear Rider Community,
Today we are seeing alarming evidence of the destruction caused by the recent extreme weather in New Jersey and surrounding areas related to Tropical Storm Ida. While Rider only sustained minimal flooding in some areas on campus, Lawrence Township has been forced to close some roads due to flooding and downed trees.
Our neighboring towns and others nearby were not so lucky. Reports of flooding and tornadoes depict widespread destruction that has resulted in power outages and several deaths. Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered losses as a result of the storm. We are grateful for the first responders and volunteers who have put themselves at risk to rescue and assist those in harm’s way, as well as the neighbors and friends who are pitching in and sacrificing to help those in need right now.
I also want to thank those at Rider, especially in Public Safety and Facilities, who always stand by on alert to protect our community. Since yesterday, and continuing today, these individuals have been working to prepare for and mitigate any potential damage around campus.
Public Safety recently sent a bulletin to students, faculty and staff that contained information about how to stay safe during an event of severe weather. Surveying the result of yesterday’s storm reinforces how vitally important it is to seriously heed warnings and take the necessary precautions that will keep you safe. As a reminder, in the case of an emergency, Public Safety remains available to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Sincerely,
Gregory G. Dell'Omo, Ph.D.
