How George Afoakwah found his #HomeAtRider:
“I chose Rider primarily due to its size. I knew it was a university where I could get the attention I need and build relationships. Many of my friends at other universities have classes with 100-plus students. They do not get as much attention and assistance from faculty as I do at Rider. I have had a great time at Rider. My academic and social goals have been attained. There has been an abundance of help that has allowed me to blossom into the person I am today.”
George is a senior majoring in biochemistry. He is a first-generation college student who came to the U.S. from Ghana in 2016. Last year, George became the first recipient of the Johnathan Yavelow Endowed Scholarship, which he is using to continue his studies at Rider and fulfill his aspirations of a career in either molecular biology or cardiology. He is currently completing his fourth research experience on campus. George is the president of the Pre-Health Society, a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, a supplemental instructor for @rider_asc and a research assistant for the Department of Earth and Chemical Sciences. #CelebrateFirstGen
