Station makes history with fourth consecutive nomination
by Tatiana Sciancalepore
107.7 The Bronc WRRC-FM has once again been nominated for College Radio Station of the Year by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). This prestigious award is the highest recognition a college or university radio station can receive in the broadcast industry.
The student-run station is one of only two college radio stations to achieve four consecutive nominations in the history of the award. This year’s winner will be announced on Oct. 25, at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards ceremony in New York City.
Fresh from their resounding victory at the 2023 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Media Awards, where they won Best College Radio Station (under 10,000 students), the team at 107.7 The Bronc is excited about what lies ahead.
“After our last win, everyone began to work even harder than usual,” says senior Taylor Tunstall, journalism major and student general manager. “The drive, commitment and passion was unlike anything I have ever seen.”
107.7 The Bronc WRRC-FM and its exclusively online platform, 107.7 The Bronc Retro WRRC2, offer Rider students an invaluable opportunity to acquire hands-on, professional experience in radio programming and media production. The station boasts a diverse mix of students pursuing degrees in vastly different areas, ranging from theatre and film to health sciences and education. “No student or member is the same,” says Tunstall. “That variety, and the unique qualities that everyone has, is what makes the station thrive.”
General Manager John Mozes reflects on the annual award saying, "Every summer, when it comes time for the Marconi Radio Awards announcement, I say to myself, ‘Nothing lasts forever,’ but every year this incredibly passionate group of students continues to prove me wrong.”
Mozes continues, emphasizing that the student members "pour their heart and soul into 107.7 The Bronc 24/7, creating a top-notch, on-air product that rivals, if not surpasses, the quality of most commercial stations across the country."
Beyond the airwaves, 107.7 The Bronc takes great pride in hosting a variety of beloved Rider events and traditions. From the drive-in movie and trunk-or-treat experience, Scream Screen, in the fall to the Eggscellent Egg Hunt in the spring, these activities foster a strong sense of camaraderie among students and create enduring memories that reverberate throughout the entire Rider community.
