What is Engaged Learning at Rider?
Engaged Learning refers to activities performed in which students apply the knowledge they learn in educational settings beyond the classroom.
How many Engaged Learning experiences must be completed by CEP students?
|Points Requirement||Category Requirement|
Freshmen status students including transfer students need to earn six (6) points.
Freshmen status students including transfer students with fewer than 31 credits need to earn points in at least two different Engaged Learning categories.
Transfer students with 31 or more accepted credits (sophomore, junior or senior status) need only three (3) points.
Transfer students with 31 or more accepted credits (sophomore, junior or senior status) need to earn points in one category, however, they may divide the points they earn across multiple categories if desired.
Engaged Learning points are earned in one or more of the following categories:
- Leadership and Mentoring (LM)
- Study Abroad or Cultural Experience (SACE)
- Civic and Community Engagement (CCE)
- Internship, Co-Op, and Fieldwork (ICF)
- Arts, Media, and Creativity (AMC)
- Guided Research and Scholarship (GRS)
Certain Rider courses carry built-in Engaged Learning points. For those courses, the credits they earn are converted into points, up to a maximum of 3 points for any one course.
Co-curricular experiences can earn Engaged Learning points as well. However, CEP students have the option of providing documentation in lieu of completing co-curricular experiences to earn Engaged Learning points. CEP students can earn points by:
- submitting a professional resume; or
- submitting a summary (5-7 sentences) of civic and community engagement work performed.
